5 Days Mombasa Beach Safari – History, Culture, and Adventure

5 Days Mombasa Beach Safari – History, Culture, and Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Mombasa – Old Town Adventure

You’ll touch down at Moi International Airport, and right away, your guide will be there to meet you. They’ll drive you to your hotel in Mombasa, where you’ll settle in for the next four nights. Once you’ve checked in and had a moment to catch your breath, it’s time to dive into the city’s heart—Mombasa Old Town. Walking those narrow, winding streets, you’ll get a real feel for the Swahili spirit. The buildings here are a wild mix of Arab, Indian, and Portuguese influences, each one with a story. You’ll check out Fort Jesus, that old Portuguese fort from the 1500s, and wander around the Old Port. As the day winds down, you’ll swing by the famous Mombasa Tusks—kind of the city’s unofficial welcome sign—then settle in for dinner with a killer sunset view over the Indian Ocean.

Day 2: Fort Jesus, Crocodiles, and the Beach

After breakfast, you’ll head back to Fort Jesus, but this time, you’ll really dig in with a guided tour. The fort has seen more history than most cities—trade, battles, you name it. The museum inside holds all sorts of relics from Mombasa’s past, and your guide will fill in the gaps with stories that bring it all to life.

Once you’ve had your fill of history, it’s off to Mamba Village, Kenya’s biggest crocodile farm. You’ll get up close with the crocs (from a safe distance, don’t worry) and maybe catch a feeding show. If you want to slow things down, there’s a botanical garden where you can take a peaceful stroll and see some local plants.

Later, you’ll end up at Nyali Beach. The water here is clear, and the sand is soft. Take it easy—stretch out under the palms, or, if you’re feeling energetic, try out some water sports. Jet skiing, windsurfing, you name it. When you’re ready, dinner’s served right on the sand, with the ocean breeze and the sound of waves in the background.

Day 3: Wildlife at Haller Park & Paradise at Diani Beach

Kick off the day at Haller Park, just outside town. Hard to believe this place used to be a quarry—now it’s full of life. You’ll join a guided walk and spot giraffes, zebras, antelopes, giant tortoises, and all kinds of birds. It’s peaceful, green, and a nice change of pace from the city.

After lunch, you’re off to Diani Beach, about half an hour south. This stretch of coast is pure white sand, lined with palms, and the water is perfect for swimming or snorkeling. Want something a bit wilder? Go kite surfing, or hop on a boat to Wasini Island for a day of snorkeling, dolphin spotting, and exploring coral reefs.

Day 4: Shimba Hills Safari & More Beach Time

Wake up early for a full day at Shimba Hills National Reserve, not far from Diani. Here, you’ll go on a game drive to look for elephants, buffalo, and the rare sable antelope. The Sheldrick Falls hike is a real highlight—you’ll walk through thick forest and end up at a beautiful waterfall, a great spot for photos or just cooling off.

Back at Diani Beach in the afternoon, it’s your time to relax. Maybe hit the spa, maybe just nap in the sun. When evening rolls around, you’ll climb aboard a dhow for a sunset cruise along the coast, sipping cocktails and soaking in the views as the sun drops into the ocean.

Day 5: Last Moments – Chill Out & Shop

Your last day starts with a lazy breakfast by the beach. If your flight’s later, you’ve got options—go souvenir shopping at Bombolulu Workshops, famous for Swahili crafts, or squeeze in one last swim. If you’re curious about local life, visit a nearby village and meet some of the artisans keeping Mombasa’s traditions alive. When it’s time, your guide will take you back to Moi International Airport for your flight home.
