Samburu Special 5

4 Days Samburu Off the Beaten Path

Overview

Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya is a rugged, dramatic landscape of acacia-dotted plains, rocky hills, and the life-giving Ewaso Ng’iro River. This is home to the famous “Samburu Special Five” — five species found only north of the equator: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk.

The river attracts large concentrations of wildlife — crocodiles, hippos, and herds of elephant, while leopards are frequently spotted in the riverine trees. A visit to a Samburu Manyatta village adds rich cultural dimension to this remarkable safari.
